Swing states are those that do not regularly vote Democrat or Republican majorities,
or where the margin of victory is less than 10% in the last elections. Voting in
these states can swing the election. (Extra votes in a solid Bush or Kerry state don't
change the result, because electoral college votes are counted by winner-takes-all state
elections.) To win, Kerry must hold all the swing states Gore won in 2000, plus take 14 electoral votes from Bush's 2000 "tally." Brother Jeb ain't lettin' go of Florida come hurricane or high water, so Ohio with 20 votes may be a winner-takes-all stake. |
