Call on the UN General Assembly:
Vote a "Uniting for Peace" Resolution
Save the People of Iraq from Imminent Slaughter

Dear Reader,

Please send an E-mail to the UN in your own words, asking the General Assembly to use its power to send a peacekeeping force to Iraq.
There may be no other way to prevent another campaign of airborne genocide on these helpless people.

Write briefly what comes to you, about the urgent need for a Uniting for Peace Resolution, and a UN peacekeeping action in Iraq, or use the points in the kit. Then send it to the list of UN Missions here. They do count these things. Give your name and address, too.

Uniting for Peace provides that if the Security Council cannot maintain international peace where there is a
“threat to the peace or act of aggression,” the General Assembly “shall consider the matter immediately….”
The General Assembly can meet within 24 hours to consider such a matter,
and can recommend collective measures to U.N. members,
including the use of armed forces to “maintain or restore international peace and security.” [1]

Peace!

Email List:
You may want to split the list into two or more shorter ones. Some ISP's limit the number of addresses you can send a mail to at the same time.
It's definitely recommended to paste the bulk of the addresses in the Bcc: (blind copy) field, each recipient doesn't need to see the whole list, their mailboxes may be getting too full already!
Example structure - To: Blix and ElBaradei. Copy: to intergovernmental organizations with observer status.
Blind copy: to regular members of general assembly.
(You can copy this structure, but you don't have to. The more original your letter, the better.)

Dear U.N. Ambassador,

President Bush appears determined to wage war on Iraq despite the world's opposition, despite the progress of UN weapons inspectors, despite the liklihood that an unprovoked war will foment, rather than eliminate, terrorism. The Bush Administration has threatened to attack Iraq even without the authority of the UN Security Council. This constitutes both a threat to world peace and to the very integrity of the UN as an institution dedicated to "the maintenance of international peace and security." Time is running short. This disastrous war must be prevented.

Therefore, I ask you to band together with other nations in support of a "Uniting for Peace" resolution against an unprovoked invasion of Iraq. As you know, Resolution 377, adopted by the UN in 1950, was designed for situations precisely like this one.

Uniting for Peace provides that if the Security Council cannot maintain international peace and there is a "threat to the peace, a breach of the peace, or an act of aggression," then the General Assembly "shall consider the matter immediately." The General Assembly can meet within 24 hours to consider such a matter, and can recommend collective measures to U.N. members including the use of armed forces to "maintain or restore international peace and security."

Such a "Uniting for Peace" resolution could require that no military action be taken against Iraq without the explicit authority of the Security Council. It could mandate that the inspectors be permitted to complete their task. It seems unlikely that the United States and Britain would ignore such a measure. A vote by the majority of countries in the world, particularly if it were almost unanimous, would make the unilateral rush to war more difficult.

Uniting for Peace can be invoked either by seven members of the Security Council or by a majority of the members of the General Assembly. It may be our last best hope for fulfilling the mission stated in the UN Charter: to "save succeeding generations form the scourge of war."

Please act now. It's not too late.

Sincerely,

Norla M. Antinoro
Arizona, USA

Sinceramente,

[French]
Cher Ambassadeur a l'ONU,

Sincerement,

More samples by many brave and patriotic Americans and world citizens should be posted soon.

I sent this message to the list in February.
Dear Friends at the U.N. Mission,

Uniting for Peace may be the last Chance for the U.N. - or even for humanity?

I am an American citizen who was not interested in politics until recently. The excesses of the Bush regime led me to investigate who they are, and what is their agenda.

The Bush dynasty has been working for decades to establish a fascist world order - and they are very, very close to succeeding this time. Bush Sr.'s father Prescott Bush was the top Nazi in the USA, who played a key role in launching Hitler to power.[2]
This Neo-Nazi regime must be stopped. They may be preparing a Holocaust far worse than WWII.

This is what moves me to write to you with a proposal to the U.N., under the Uniting for Peace Resolution:

Proposed Resolution
"The United Nations General Assembly calls on the United States and United Kingdom to abandon their threat of unilateral military action against the people of Iraq.
If the U.S. and U.K. do not comply with this Resolution within 24 hours, the U.N. calls on all willing members to constitute a peacekeeping force in all haste, to protect the people of Iraq, and perform such other duties as may be agreed with the government of Iraq" - such as bringing an end to the mass suffering from twelve years of U.N. sanctions.

Bold words have echoed in the Security Council of the Nations for a peace plan.[3] As the echo dies away, a new crop of death's fiery flowers already springs from a rain of missiles on the battered soil of Iraq. And the plan - where is the plan?

A Blitzkrieg - translates to "lightning war" in English - "shoot first, ask questions later" in cowboy lingo - "creating facts on the ground" in jargon - a Blitzkrieg is what our fascist junta will launch, any day now, to pre-empt the U.N. Just as surely as the same band of war criminals shut down the League of Nations in its day.

Humanity's Assembly must act quickly. There are no two ways about it. The rest of the world must show backbone, or submit to the new fascist empire, for a slide down the path to nuclear armageddon.

The Franco-German plan foresees a UN force with "executive authority" in Iraq to guarantee that it really destroys weapons of mass destruction (should it still have any). There is no word yet whether Iraq would accept.

What is most admirable about the proposal, though, is that it is hard to imagine aggression against a U.N.-shielded Iraq, even by the most drunken cowboy in the White House saddle.

Yesterday, Feb. 22, at a summit in Kuala Lumpur, the ministers of the non- aligned movement declared their opposition to a unilateral attack. They represent nearly 2/3 of the votes of the U.N. General Assembly.

Under the Uniting for Peace Resolution, the General Assembly takes action to forestall bloodshed, when the Security Council is deadlocked. A resoluiton can be a moral deterrent, or a call to defensive arms, or both. That is, it can muster UN peacekeeping troops directly, or merely call on the U.S. aggressor to desist, and let inspections continue - or both, as in the proposal above.

The world community knows full well who are the evildoers in this unfolding tragedy. A pre-emptive strike is a statutory war crime. It is obvious to all eyes and ears that the clear and present danger is not Iraq, but the neo-Nazi Bush regime, poised to unleash weapons of mass destruction on a civilian population. It is our duty as human beings, all of us, to shield any victims from assault as we can. We are lucky that we can help.

I pray your Mission to the United Nations will take the initiative and call for a Uniting for Peace Resolution to save the world's children.

The world is depending on you. Thanks to you, and good luck!

Best regards

John Leonard
