Nov. 8, 2006. Progressive Press, USA. It was already clear on election night that the Democrats had turned the tide against the -- er, What name is polite enough on a nice website like this? How about -- "the party of plutocracy, pedophilia and preemptive war?"
Anyway, the morning after, I went on the web to learn more. Put the word "election" in the search window on Google News.
And here were their "top stories" at 11 a.m. Eastern, which I've immortalized with one or two screen shots:
Google must have pulled their tip top #1 story from way Down Under the bottom of the stack:
The #1 Hot Hit: "Registered political parties have until midday on Thursday to nominate candidates in the Victorian election" - The Age, Australia.
Wow, there's a shocker! It goes on:
#2 News Flash: Poll Mania. It all started when a Kentucky voter... didn't want to vote
#3 Blockbustin' Biggie: Two years ago, stocks swung wildly on Election Day as rumors swirled
#4 Sizzlin' Scoop: Late voting, other problems delay election results - 2 hours ago
# 5 Must Read: A Few Leaders Emerge in Election Coverage. Katie Couric proved herself affably in command last night
# 6 Golden Oldie: Ortega wins presidential election in Nicaragua - Xinhua
# 7 Earthshaking News: In The Election Results Race, Yahoo's The Winner. Google told us last month that Google Earth was all geared up to be an election guide.
#8 and a little late (yawn): AP. Washington: A preliminary analysis shows voter turnout on Tuesday was about the same as in the last midterm congressional election. [Truthout.org reports, "Tuesday's election will go down in history for its record voter turnout - an unprecedented feat for a midterm election"]
# 9 Blues News: London (AFX) - US blue chips look set for a big retreat in … uncertainty over the US mid-term election
#10 Top Topic: Let Post-Election Debugging Begin
How about Post-Election Debumming beginning - We the People have voted loud and clear to throw the bums out!
For my 2¢ of recompense, Google was in on a bum fix to suppress the results. What stopped them from taking the front page banner headline from the nation's newspaper of record? (even if it's kind of a broken record)
Democrats Take Control of House - New York Times
How do they google up gossip from the bowels of the world-famous Carlisle Sentinel instead?
Mind you, a fizzled fix doesn't mean failed. The big fix was on big time, and we'll never know how many seats were stolen by Karl "Reichmann" Rove's robots and humops on Election Day. Greg Palast says "Four and a half million votes have been shoplifted" even before the election.
How about taking a little rove around the web for vote theft….
-- John-Paul Leonard
Note. When Google News finally did report the facts around 3 p.m. ET, it was the straight party line: "Bush says disappointed with election results." Heil Bush!
